First Blog Post - Hey! I'm Kristen
Updated: Mar 3
As I go through the first few months of opening my own small, woman run business LONI Marketing, I have been reading articles upon articles, and listening to multiple podcasts daily, trying to learn all the “tips and tricks” and stories of entrepreneurship. Clearly, a four year degree still isn’t enough for me - I crave constant education on how to be “better”. Many of these mentors advise new entrepreneurs to start their own blog. At first thought, that was a big “hell no” for me! I was thinking…“who on my business page actually WANTS to just read blog posts about marketing trends and tips? I mean, they hire ME to take care of their marketing matters...right?”
As I kept listening and reading, I learned that a blog should initially get your followers to know you, and who you are beyond your social media posts. It should create a sense of comfort and make them feel like they know who YOU are. After grasping the concept that I should be writing about not only marketing, but my own life experiences, knowledge and passions... I thought “this couldn’t be too hard could it? maybe someone will be able to relate to me?”
So here we are, I suppose I should tell you who I am! My name is Kristen Orr. I live in a dainty apartment in Glens Falls, NY with my cat Louis, boyfriend Seth, and half of the time, his adorable little one year old girl, Vivian. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration and a Minor in Entrepreneurship, both from Plattsburgh State University. I grew up in an incredibly rural town not far from there called Westport, New York. When I say rural, think very small! I literally graduated with 19 other students, and we were considered a “big class”. On the other side of things, I come from a rather large family of nine siblings, and I landed smack-dab in the middle! When things got slow throughout the town, they were never slow within my personal life.
Now a deeper dive into who I am, something beyond what you can check out on my FaceBook page. First things first, I'll just go out and say it, I would actually die for my cat, Louis. Second, people who know me know that I am, and have always been a “workaholic.” I am always on the go. Right now, I work 40 hours a week at a law office in Saratoga Springs and then I go home, fit my workout in (when I can) make a quick dinner, and then usually work on my own business until around 11 or 12 at night. When we have Viv, it's a little bit different, Seth and I like to make her dinner together and play with her for a while, and usually I don’t start LONI work until she goes to bed (Cue Seth playing xBox). Between just starting my own venture (entrepreneurs, you know how this feels), working full-time, and spending time with my family, you could say I am pretty busy these days. I would mention a few of my "hobbies", but at this point of my life, I don't have a lot of time for extra-curriculars.
I tend to have a constant drive to do well, save money, plan out everything, and to be efficient and punctual with all that I do. This can totally be sort-of a blessing - but more of a curse. Sometimes I feel like I can’t watch a TV show at night without feeling a sense of guilt that I could be doing something more productive. I’m sure many of you occasionally feel like that! I am finally getting myself to be okay with the fact that the baby’s bedroom does not have to look like a HomeGoods magazine cover every night before we go to bed and that it is okay if we eat pizza for dinner once in a while instead of a “well-balanced” meal. Thankfully, my friends and family know my go-getter attitude to be one of my stronger traits, so if I don’t reply to that text message immediately they always understand!
As you can tell, I am still learning about life and growing, but who isn’t at 22? Every single day, I strive to be better than who I was the day before. I sincerely hope you come on this adventure with me into diving deeper into who I am, what I’m about, and all that I love. You’ll be hearing from me soon!
